How to boost your immune system and help #flattenthecurve. My immune boosting + anti-viral protocol

After an abrupt onset of auto-immune like symptoms, including an inflammation of my heart lining--a condition known as pericarditis and seemingly no answers from doctors, I spent the majority of last year researching mystery illnesses/viruses. I found there are thousands—if not millions of people who have the same story. There are also countless functional medicine doctors who see patients like me in their office everyday. They treat conditions unrecognized by the medical community that can cause mystery symptoms such as Reactivated Retroviruses, Epstein Barr, Lyme Disease, Parasites, Mold Infection, Hormone Imbalance, ect — and they mostly require the same treatment: you need to boost the sh*t out of your immune system and rid your life of environmental toxins in order for your body to do what it knows how to do best: heal itself.


This is my anti-viral, immune boosting protocol:


PROBIOTICS

First and foremost, do not do anything else if you do not do this— take a QUALITY probiotic. I also recommend throwing anything fermented into your diet— kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, fermented vegetables, yogurt, kefir, etc...

SUGAR DETOX

Studies have shown that refined sugars can suppress your immune system for hours after ingesting. Plus, it increases inflammation which suppresses the immune system even further. It is not the spoonful of sugar in your coffee that is putting you under, it is the sugar as the hidden ingredient in any processed/package/frozen food. Which leads me to my next topic... 

WHOLE FOODS

I had to mess with a few different diets before I found one that helped. Ultimately I’ve been gluten, sugar & dairy free for a year. Whatever diet you subscribe to, make sure it is full of nutrient-dense WHOLE foods with a ton of fruits & veggies. If you want to be vegan, be the best damn vegan you can be but don’t eat french fries and frozen veggie burgers everyday. You might as well be eating McDonalds. A simple rule of thumb to follow is if it has ingredients you can’t pronounce, don’t eat it.

SLEEP & EXERCISE

Aim for 8 hours of sleep a night and 30-60 minutes of exercise a day. If you are feeling run down, try some gentle yoga. Overexertion when you are run down can further suppress immune function. 

VITAMINS & SUPPLEMENTS

Quality is of the most importance when it comes to any vitamin or supplement. I purchase a lot of supplements from Metagenics and Klair Labs. As mentioned, Probiotics, but also Vitamin C, d3, B12, Zinc, Fish Oil are some good basics to start with. I also incorporate a ton of anti-viral supplements such as elderberry, l-lysine, olive leaf & lemon balm. I could write a whole blog on retroviruses but I will just advise you to pick up a copy of Medical Medium by Anthony William. 


If you haven’t hopped on the Medical Medium train yet, I suggest you look into him. He comes off as a total f*cking quack but along my journey of specialists I came across an angel of a rheumatologist at NYU Langone who told me I had reactivated Epstein Barr—so I gave his protocols a try and they have helped tremendously.


DETOXING ENVIRONMENTAL TOXINS

They are known as ‘endocrine disrupters’ and they are found in self-care products, candles, cleaning supplies, plastics & foods. An amazing way to detox these excess ‘xenoestrogens’ is through manual lymphatic drainage/rebounding + staying away from anything with: plastic, pesticides, fragrance, BPA, flame retardants, heavy metals of any kind, etc...

REBOUNDING & MLD

Manual Lymphatic Drainage & Rebounding (aka jumping on a trampoline) promotes lymphatic flow and rids your body of all those excess hormones. Your lymphatic system transports lymph, an important infection-fighting fluid containing white blood cells so you wanna have those f*ckers squeaky clean. 

STRESS/MENTAL HEALTH

This reigns supreme over all previous suggestions. Everything in the body begins in the mind. Bodywork, meditation, yoga & energy work can do wonders for your mind/body connection. Tapping or EFT, a form of energy work, is one of my favorite ways to process emotions & release fear. 


While I am certainly no doctor (not even close) I have been involved in the holistic health community since birth (thanks to my hippie mother) and professionally since 2012. I have done all the fads and tied all the things and I stick with what works.


The most important thing you can do to protect yourself and others from COVID_19 is stay the f*ck home. Hopefully, this non-sense will pass soon and we can get back to our normal lives & touching each other again. (#notlikethat) Oxytocin, which is our cuddle hormone, gets released during human touch and fuels the relaxation response in the body which boosts the sh*t out of your immune system ever further.
